We recently took a vacation to California to explore Sonoma Wine Country. Since our flight arrived into SFO very late, we planned to stay one night in San Francisco and then drive to our primary hotel in the morning. San Francisco has plenty of hotels to choose from, so we narrowed our search to Hilton hotels near the airport. The Hilton Garden SFO Burlingame seemed to be a good fit.
This hotel review will be short and sweet, just like our stay!
Rate
I was delighted to be able to secure a really good rate of $90 (including taxes, etc) for our one night stay. I paid for the room with a Hilton card in order to obtain the most possible points return for our hotel spend.
Whenever I book an inexpensive hotel crash pad for the night, I never have super high expectations for the room. I just need it to be clean, have a comfortable bed and a working shower.
Transportation
Unfortunately, this hotel did not offer an airport shuttle. Lucky for us that on this trip, Pat our Tour Guide/Driver for the week, was able to transport us from the airport to the hotel. The Hilton Garden SFO Burlingame is less than 5 miles away from SFO airport and has Free Guest Parking.
Room
Although the room had 3 dresser drawers, and a decent sized closet, for such a short stay we didn’t bother to unpack. It also had a spacious desk and office chair if you needed to get some work done. Additionally, there was a side chair and ottoman with a floor lamp behind it if you just wanted to relax and do a bit of reading. The room was also equipped with a kitchen center which contained a coffee pot, microwave and mini fridge. The room literally had everything we could need.
Sorry no photos of the bed, because after a full day of work and travel, my husband collapsed into it as soon as we hit the door. There were easy to access plugs on each side of the bed for charging our phones and plenty of big fluffy pillows to help us quickly drift off to sleep.
In the morning, I was pleasantly suprised to discover the bathroom had very good lighting. Hotels seem to struggle with that. The bathroom was very clean with plenty of towels, ample counter space for the two of us and a shower that was easy to operate (they aren’t always). My husband was a fan of the Neutragena bath amenities.
After a good nights sleep in what I thought was a very comfortable bed, I parted the black out curtains and peeked out the window just in time to see the sun starting to come up over the bay. I wasn’t expecting our room to have any sort of a view, so this was a nice bonus.
Breakfast and Hotel Amenities
Because our trip was a week before California started loosening up their Covid protocols, our Gold Member breakfast came in the form of a prepackaged box. My husband went down and picked them up at the front desk then brought them back to eat in our room. Each box came with 2 boiled eggs, either a muffin or a bagel with cream cheese, an orange, yogurt and some orange juice. It was actually just what we needed.
Because of Covid restrictions and the short duration of our stay, we really didn’t get to explore amenities like the indoor pool or fitness center.
Final Thoughts
Although this hotel was a little bit dated, but it was clean and comfortable, well equipped, close to the airport and reasonably priced. It was perfect for an overnight layover or a late airport arrival.
I would definitely stay there again!
